Core Cannabis Course: Ocimene

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

Welcome to homework assignment CCC 1.33 of the Core Cannabis Course from Higher Learning LV. In this assignment, students learn about ocimene, a terpene that has been found to deliver anticancer efficacy, as well as anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antioxidant qualities. Ocimene is one of the eight super class terpenes identified in the 2022 peer-reviewed research study as being the most common in North American cannabis cultivars.

In the assignments that follow, students are exposed to an in-depth analysis of ocimene involving the most recent peer-reviewed scientific research, including its aroma profile and the potential medicinal benefits delivered by this terpene.

What is Ocimene?

Ocimene, one of the eight super class terpenes, is known for delivering an sweet, woody scent and herbaceous flavor that sometimes carries notes of fresh fruity citrus, earth, and forest. Like many of its super class siblings, this common terpene is a popular food and cosmetics ingredient and is also employed as an insect repellant.

Did You Know?

The cannabis genome produces 100+ cannabinoids, 150+ terpenes, and 20 flavonoids.

These phytomolecules interact with the human endocannabinoid system (ECS) to produce wellness.

But it gets complex. Biphasic response curves, biosynthetic pathways, and acidic precursors all commingle. Subscribe to learn how.
